It depends upon the dog - some do and some don't. However, dogs evolved from wolves before they were domesticated, and there is some evolutionary advantage for a wolf that will jump up onto a rock to look around and scent the air for prey.

Good... usually. Without hop-up, BBs tend to fall after ~15-25ft. However, be sure to get an adjustable hop-up, or you can end up with BBs going straight up after ~15-25ft! Learning how to fine-tune a hop-up is a crucial skill if accuracy is important.
