Eating dry dog food has no effect on a dogs lifespan. Dry food can often be healthier for dogs and there is much less chance of getting dental problems if dry food is fed. Your question is therefore "what is the normal lifespan of a dog?" This depends on breed; anything from 9 years for a Boxer to 16 years for a small cross breed.

I have had dogs all my life. I currently have three. It has been my experience that dry food is the better choice. However, mix the dry food with some water. The reason for this is as follows. When a dog eats dry food only, the food will expand within the animals stomach and especially when followed by water which could facilitate or promote some stomach problems. When you mix the dry food with water before the dog eats, the food has already expanded before the dog eats. Thus, it is easier for the dog to digest. I have always fed my dogs this way, and have always had healthy, happy, and energetic dogs. Viper1
