The horse's frog should be a brownish color. After a trim it may be a lighter brown but will soon return to the original color. If the frog looks blackish and has a bad ordor it could be a sigh of "thrush" which is a fungal infection and can be easily treated with an anti-fungal solution found at most feed stores or equine catalogs.
