Adult cougars are solitary animals meeting only to mate. If their hunting territories overlap, they may wind up fighting to establish dominance and drive the weaker cougar out of the territory of the stronger one. Only female cougars and their young kittens live in groups with the kittens striking out on their own as they mature.
