No. There really is no "meanest dog breed," pitbulls can be mean, but it depends how u train them, and who trains them. A lot of pitbulls are used in dog fighting, and after dog fighting they turn meaner. But they can be very sweet dogs.

You can say that Pitt Bulls are mean. Many are nice. However, many people get Pitt Bulls and train them to be mean and fierce to protect themselves. Lots of Pitt Bulls can be nice especially if train them to be nice ever since they were a puppy.

I don't believe that pit bulls are mean by nature by any means, I believe that they are what YOU make them. I have raised pit bulls for the last decade and I have never had one turn on me or my family. I have raised pits that came from really abusive homes and puppies from the swap meet. Pit bulls are very big hearted dogs that have gotten a very bad rap. If the owner does not train them right then of course like any animal or HUMAN, they have no choice but to run on instinct, which in most cases is survival of the fittest. In these cases it is not the dogs fault at all but instead the OWNERS fault for not teaching and training this animal the rules and for sure not allowing that pit to be spoiled. hope this helps you.

NO! I am on number 6, and 7, (these two are rescues), and I have to say no. They are not the best with other dogs, so socializing is key here. Now, I also have to say that they are very unique from other breeds of dogs, in that they are very sensative, and smart. And, they have a certain "intensity", and require a lot of loyalty, as that is what they give. You cannot short change them. Or, fool them. They know when your not honest with them. Really. And their learning capacity is phenominal. I am still often surprised at the level of communication they exhibit, from day to day. Now, I read in a book, somewhere, that the origin of the American, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which is the most popular of the 4 types, was actually called a "nanny" dog, and it's original purpose was to "mind" the children, while the parents went out to farm the fields. And, their "toughness", was bred into them, because they were sometimes up against some pretty tough "wild" animals, and again, were to protect the children. Now, I can see all of that being true, just due to the way mine, over the years, have reacted to situations. In other words, even though the two I have are still puppies, (about 8 months) and are still a little "rowdy", as puppies will be, I can explain to them, yes with words, the situation, and they are responsive, and respectful, when an elderly person, or child, or even an injured roomate is around, thus settling down, and actually becomming "protective" of that individual, or situation. Now when they get out, as they do from time to time, I can tell a difference in their behavior when together, or seperated. Actually the female, is more the instigator, dragging the male into situations he would not normally be in. So, since they are a pack animal, ina pack, they are more antogonistic. And, yes, they can fight, better than any other dog, in the world. Over the years, they have matched them against every other breed, and they have not been beaten. Now, if they are beaten, hit, or otherwise abused, or whatch that happen to another, they just might develop an attitude. Disloyal owners will cause the same thing. They are what is considered a "working" dog. So, they need to stay busy, and have responsibilities. And, they are proud, and do not take to even a lot of verbal abuse. And, they recognize their own breed, and somewhat "snub", or are annoyed with other breeds and really should not be mixed. Now, I have to say this. As with any other dog, if you do not know it, do not approach it without the owner present. Any dog can be dangerous, especially running on their own. Pits are "homebodies", and though they escape, they are confused, afraid, and stressed. They will be more apt to attack, out of fear. The dog catcher brought my two home the other day, and she said she didn't have to use any equiptment, at all. They were friendly to her, and cooperative. It is all in the owners, and upbringing. It is sad, however, some people that get them, are not of a level of inteligance, or, have the proper morals, to raise them. If every one were professionally raised, then adopted out, there would be a lot less stories in the paper. And, some of it is mystique. Another book I read about them, printed in the 50"s, by the way, talks about how over the years, the viscious ones with bad temperment, have been weeded out, and not allowed to breed. I know that their breeding has been closely gaurded until just recently. And, I do know that they have been having some trouble, recently, with the "blue nose". That is from bad breeding, as people are controlling them down their exact markings, for an "extra" buck. Money. Pathetic. I have two "red nose", the toughest, that were abused, sleeping in bed, with me, every night, and I only feel safer. If my Grandparents needed a dog, they would have one of these...........Chuck.

No they are amazing animals people look down upon them because they put the bad stories in the paper. Those dogs were treated wrong that's why they were aggressive and lashed out. They never put the stories like the one I read about a pittbull draging a small child out of a house during a fire. I have 2 and they are amazing with other dogs and my children and I wouldn't trade gthem for anything....
