Answer
They're both cat species, and they're(usually) spotted, so there are some similarities.
But where cheetahs are built for speed, leopards are built more for strength.
Leopards look like scaled-up house cats in their proportions, while cheetahs look like a cat version of a Greyhound or a whippet. Long, lean and slender.
Answer
No. Cheetahs are lean, have small heads and short muzzles with wide nostrils. They can range from pale yellowish, tawny yellow, greyish or fawn in colour, and are covered in small round dark spots. Their fur is short and coarse. And their ears are rounded and black. A Leopard has an elongate body and massive limbs of moderate length. The paws are broad and rounded and the ears are short. The tail is thick and long. They can range in color from pale straw and grey buff to bright fulvous, deep ochre, almost chestnut with black rossettes. Their ears are black with white central spots. And there coat can range from short and course to long and soft, depending on where they're located. So as you can see they are totally different.
The cheetah would win because he is a lot stronger.
The leopard gecko is spotted like a cheetah.

Cheetah spots are closed and smaller. Leopard spots are open and have tan in the middle, like an 'o' or a 'c'.

Cheetahs are way too smart to get in a fight with an elephant. But it has been proven that a bunch of big cats can take down an elephant. But, the question clearly said a (as in one) cheetah. In reality, the cheetah would get squished!
Generally the answer to your question is no. Cheetah lost all their weight as they evolved to run fast. They are now extremely light and are no match for a leopard. Indeed leopards as well as lions kill many young cheetah before they are old enough to do anything. This is why cheetah have evolved to have large litters as as little as 1 in 20 survive to have young of their own. Cheetah can be driven off their kills by many animals; indeed there have been documented occasions when wart hogs (who are herbivores) have pushed cheetah off their kill. Part of their adaption to this is to hunt in the middle of the day when all the other predators are snoozing through the heat. Finally a previous answer states that they could out run one. This is probably true but several things should be considered first: A cheetah has been clocked at doing as much as 110 kmh, and can keep this up for as much as 700m though after this it will need at least 20 minutes to recover. A leopard has been known to do 90kmh or more but can only keep this up for 60-70m However a leopard recovers faster. As such a cheetah could probably out run a leopard initially. However cheetah occur at very low densities everywhere they live because they are so incapable of defending themselves and their meals. Kruger for instance in south Africa (about the size of wales) has a total of 200 or so cheetah, compared to 1000 lions and 1500 leopards.
