Alligators are carnivores. They eat meat, not plants. In the wild they will eat what ever animal or fish they can get their jaws on. They will drag it down under the water and spin until the animal drowns. Then they will wedge it under or a log or rock until it has started to decompose. Biting off chunks from time to time.

In captivity raw steak and fish is the main course for alligators.
