Does guinea pig prevent loneliness

It is possible, but not very common. If a mate has died then the pig is likely to get depressed for a little while. You can tell this if they eat less, refuse to come out of their house and if they squeak less. But after a while they will turn back to normal. After my guinea pigs friend died, he took about a week and a half and then he was back to normal. If you think that the guinea pig is still very lonely, then you can always buy another pig to live in the same cage. Be careful if you are going to do this, as your old guinea pig may not accept the new one and will fight. To ensure that they get on well, introduce them slowly. Perhaps allow them to spend a few minutes together at first and then gradually increase this each day.

Guinea pigs I've found are very docile animals and love fuss and attention. They are very therapeutic, and will sit on your lap for hours. Use a towl though because guinea pigs don't care where they go to do their business.

I got my first guinea pig two years ago, a male. After reading that they are social animals, we went back and got one of his littermates for a buddy. We ensured that his new friend was male. Of course, it is irresponsible to place a female friend into your male's life because of the risk of pregnancy. Getting a male and watching to make sure they don't have any fights that result on blood drawn is your best option. Little, short tiffs are okay, they're just establishing dominance. Also, DO NOT get a bunny to keep your guinea pig company. Guinea pigs are social, yet dependent. Bunnies are very snuggly, so you will end up with a sad, lonely bunny, and an annoyed guinea pig.

I know that guinea pigs are very social animals, I have always had 2 together. But I am sure the piggie will be fine as long as the owner pays a lot of attention to it! :)

yes, mine actually fights with others so it has to be. It has been alone for 2 years and it is fine.

If there is more than one guinea pig in the cage, they won't get lonely. If there is only one guinea pig, it's lonely all the time, no matter who is home.
