Exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction where heat is released, thus making the surrounding feel warmer.

Endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction where heat is absorbed and thus makes the surroundings feel colder.

To remember the difference for tests and what not, I always follow this rule I made up: "If it's exothermic, its expelling heat"- so that's the one making the surroundings hotter
