Dolphins mare marine mammals, which means that the females have an uterus just like cows and people, and that they deliver live young. And they do it in the water, and (all else being equal) there will be several females around, all of whom will help the baby get up to the surface for it's first breath. They give birth to a calf after 11 to 17 months gestation depending on the species from small dolphins to Orca.
