Monkeys are not safe, I have been personally chased by a tiny Macaque who was trying to bite me and on another occasion by a number of much larger monkeys (don't know species) who did not like me being in that part of the park apparently.
Most are not normally aggressive unless near young, but they should in no way be considered safe to approach or keep as pets around children. They can bite, which introduces a range of toxins and bacteria, they can scratch, they can tear and they can hit you. These are not stupid animals and have a range of emotions and memories that, like with humans, can lead to excessive mood swings.
If you are not persuaded, by all means walk into a baboon enclosure.
