How can dogs understand humans?? They don't really, they just listen to the ways and frequency of which you say the words. The same with birds, the higher the frequency the more great the command is. The lower the lesser. Also, they bark at birds because of their singing, and may want to eat them.

Improved Answer- Ok, I am very good at this and I do know why they can understand birds. They can understand birds by the way the dogs sense things, they have a little bitty chip inside their brain that can communicate with other living things, For Example, A cat was walking and the dog was sitting, the dog barks (Moving half of his chin down, and his upper lip about 1.4 inches Up. That means, he is being friendly. So, you can tell about the little chip in their brains that they can communicate. If a dog was like having a diesease, it will lose the chip, and would not be able to understand. That diesease is called Blastomycosis. Which affects the Brain in many ways, including the eyes, and more symptoms. Please be aware of your dog having Andy seisures that may affect the chance of not having a brain chip. It mostly occurs to Male Dogs, as if they were not Female.
