How can you tell if your cat has a cold?

A way to tell if a cat is cold a cats nose is usually dry and it might be shaking. Also if your cat is sick their ears will be warm. You should also notice some different behavior with your cat.

In order to get an accurate temperature on a cat(or dog), you must take the temperature rectally using a regular human thermometer. You may choose to use one of the fancy ear thermometers, but you have to really cram it in your cat's ear to get a reading, and then the reading they give you is usually inaccurate. Just feeling it's nose or ears is an old wive's tale and are not an indication of fever. Normal temp for dogs an cats is 100.5 F - 102.5 F. I'd suggest you have one clearly labeled for butts only or you may get an unpleasent suprise the next time you think YOU may have a fever.

i would like to add something just for info, and after 17 years of having one same cat, note that the cat when is sick the nose will be very dry you can touch it and see usually the nose is always wet and cold, so if somebody has any sick cat check this and you will find how mcuh is dry.

A cat with a sore throat will usually be reluctant to eat or drink as this is painful for it. Try to see if your cat's voice is deeper than usual and more hoarse. Look out for signs of drooling because it will be harder for your cat to swallow. Also while eating if your cat shows difficulty of swallowing and makes strange sounds from the throat it means it has an infection which is causing the sore throat. You should take your cat to the vet as soon as you can because certain medicines may be needed. Don't try to force your cat to eat just take it to the vet.
