The tuxedo dates back to the early 1800's. It originated with a coat with a long tail and usually was worn with a white tie. Today it is worn by men for most special occasions.
Black and white cats are often called just that - Black and White. Sometimes, if the coat is a specific pattern, the coat is called a Tuxedo. This is because the fur is usually white on the belly, like an under shirt and black on the cat's back, outer legs and tail like a tuxedo jacket.
