By and large they eat. Giraffes are herd animals so they move from place to place looking together for food.

Further information:

Giraffes are social animals, with no set number in a herd, and any combination of young males and females. Older males are solitary, only joining a herd during the mating season. Giraffes are most active at dawn and dusk, but will continue to graze through the day. Younger males in a herd spar with each other by "neck Wrestling", in which they twist their necks together and try to push each other off balance. Giraffes do not make loud noises, and usually make no sound at all, but when startled may grunt, snort or even bellow. They can make a mooing sound when distressed.
