If it is a male hippo it will use it's brute strength and sizable tusks to stomp the crocodile to death. The female hippo will nag and cajole the croc into marrying her and then slowly crush his hopes and dreams until he can't take it anymore and dies of a broken spirit.
Hippos and alligators don't live in the same regions. Hippos do kill crocodiles, but they don't eat them.
