Can horses eat oats and sugar cubes?

I am sure that most horses have the ability to. But i would not suggest it. Horses digest carbohydrates differently than people do. And as much sugars and other heavy carbohydrates that are in instant oatmeal could cause the horse digestive problems and least of all discomfort.

How do horses maintain lean body mass eating only grass?

Horses eat mostly complex carbohydrates, although they get some proteins from the legumes they eat as well as small insects or other animals they accidentally ingest along with the forage. The primary source of protein in horses is actually from dead bacteria from the cecum, where horses have a steady fermentation vat that breaks down the plant material they eat.
