well, seals protect themselves by hiding. When the whale spots it the seal knows he's been exposed to a predator because the seal's whiskers can help tell when a predator is close. Imediately the seal swims as fast( 22 mp/h) as it can and finds a place to hide. The seal would hide somewhere small and the killer whale can't eat the seal up. Killer whales always look for bate and there main food source is SEALS. that's why seal's whiskers come in handy.
