Your Pit Bull dog doesn't need much bathing. It's best not to bathe dogs too often, perhaps once or twice a year is all that's needed.

Bathing too frequently isn't good for a dog's skin, it can actually cause itchy dry skin. When it is necessary to bathe your dog, use a shampoo specifically formulated for dogs, not a shampoo made for people. Dog's skin has a different pH than human skin.

An adult dog of any breed may not he too happy about being bathed, if it's not used to the process. If your dog won't stand still, or becomes aggressive when you try to bathe it in the bathtub, there are waterless pet shampoos that you spray on, and brush out. In the summer, you can try to make a game out of spraying the dog with a garden hose outside, if that doesn't frighten your dog.

A natural bristle brush is recommended in order to maintain a Pit Bull's smooth and shiny coat. While Pit Bulls do not get tangled hair, a brush is necessary to remove dead hair, stimulate the skin, and distribute oils. It is not necessary to brush his coat everyday; however it is a great way to give your dog a little pampering that he deserves. Brushing your Pit Bull also gives you the opportunity to spend quality time with him which helps in creating a stronger bond between you and your pet.
