How do you change fan belt on john deere 4020?

hi, i recently purchased an old JD 524. To remove the old belts you have to "split the snowblower between the impellers (round part) and the housing that covers the drive gears. (square part).There are 4 bolts you need to remove, 2 upper and 2 lower , Also you will need to take the bottom cover off to get on the nuts for these bolts, after you remove them and a pesky spring that is in there, the blower will split into 2 parts. Once split you should be able to get the belts out. I havent put new ones in yet so youre on your own for that one, but should be able to go in the way they came out. good luck

It looks like to me that you have to separate the engine from the driveshaft. I haven't had to do this on mine yet but I took the fan off of it today for another repair and noticed the belt goes around the driveshaft with apparently no way to get it off but to cut it off. Of course, reinstalling the new one will require a separation of the rubber u-joint. In my opinion of course.

I have a trs 26 snow blower and all I do is take belt cover off :small bolts on ether side then twist the cover off gently so as not to wreck it. Then I loosen the belt guides ,the blower is the out side belt .Tape auger handle in blowing position and remove whats left of old belt and install new belt. (there is space between the two pulley below the motor pulley.

The Operator's Manual for that machine is online. While that OS not specifically covered, Section 35 covers checking and adjustment. Loosen the bolt on the alternator and pivot it inwards. Link is below.
