how do i check the hydro transmisson fluid on a stx38
John Deere recommends that you put Low Viscosity Hy-Gard or Hy-Gard Transmission oil in their Hydro or Gear Transmissions. The Low-Vis is used for factory fill in the Hydro and Hy-Gard in the Gear Transmission.
The transmission belt routing for a John Deere 175 Hydro typically involves running the belt around the engine pulley, through the idler pulley, and around the transmission drive pulley. Ensure the belt is properly tensioned and aligned to prevent slippage. For precise routing details, refer to the operator's manual or a service manual, as it provides specific diagrams and instructions for your model.

Need to tighten the belt on john Deere 1538
The John Deere 170 garden tractor was produced in 1989 and 1990. It had a gear drive while the 175 was equipped with a hydro drive.
That could be considered a trick question. The answer is none. The 240 and 260 were both gear drive; the 245, 265, 285, and 320 were hydros. All were made in the 1990's.

To release the hydrostatic transmission on a John Deere STX46, locate the release lever, typically found near the rear of the machine. Pull the lever outward to disengage the transmission, which allows the mower to be pushed manually. Ensure the mower is in neutral before releasing the transmission to avoid any unexpected movement. Once you're finished, re-engage the lever to restore normal operation.
Agear drive will use 90 wt whereas a hydro will use 10W30.
