first you spray some smelly stuff in the shoe then if that doesn't work put them in the washer

Simply putting them in the washer will NOT work. Trust me I've tried several times - at least if the shoes are cloth. The smell seems to come out of suede and faux leathers fine but even when cloth shoes are washed with bleach and white vinegar the smell remains.
