The general rule of thumb is seven dog years for one human year. However, this is only a general guide. In the early years of a dog's life, one human year equals more than 7 dog years, because dogs reach adulthood much quicker.

As the dog ages, the equivalent human years are fewer.

A better way to calculate is that, for the dog's first two years of life, each human year equals 10.5 dog years, and after that it is closer to 1 human year = 4 dog years.

Very simple actually! OK,lets pretend that you just got a puppie. You can start determine the age when it turns 1 in human years.human years is normal years for us. Anyway,when it turns 1 in human years,well in dog years,they are actually 7 yrs old,but just because they are 7yrs in dog years doesn't mean they will act that age so just to say in case you had any expectations....but anyway,lets now say that it is 2 years old in human years,so now the dog is 14 years old. So basically,every year in human years,is 7 more years for dogs. So when they are 3 in human years they are 21 years in dog years. Getting the hang of it now? Hopefully! But don't worry to much about it,because dogs usually live for about 14-16 years(in human years) if they are in good condition!
