Most canine bad breath is usually caused by either dental problems or mouth infections. Decaying teeth or gum disease is the most prominent one. There are others, including stomach/gastro problems, cancer, sinus problems. Only a vet can effectively diagnose what is causing the problem and offer a course of treatment.

If it is a temporary problem caused by eating something that smells, there are chew bones with mint and other hebal ingredients that may help a little. But they really aren't very effective in my experience.

One way is to switch to a better quality dog food. You can also buy 'greenies' found at many pet stores, but they can be kind of pricey. You can also buy pet toothpaste and brush your dogs teeth, daily preferred, but at least once a week. Might require some training to get your dog used to brushing teeth.

Another thing you can do is buy some tough bones to chew on to help keep tarter build up on teeth down.

Gum disease (usually in middle age to older dogs) or yeast infections of the mouth could also be giving a problem in which a vet check up should take place. Upset stomachs can also trigger bad breath for a short period.
