How do you help your kitten get attached to you?

This is probably more your kitten's choice than yours; cats are very independent even if they are cuddly bundles of love when young. The saying is that dogs have owners; cats have staff. But if you care for it, feed it properly and play with it a lot, spend time with it and learn to read when it wants to be left alone, your cat will be friends with you for its life. Best friends? It happens naturally with dogs. With cats, as mentioned above, that will be up to kitty.

When you bring your kitten home, allow him to come out of the cat carrier and explore the house on his own. Being taken from one place to another and leaving his mom and siblings will have been a little traumatic for him so he may take a while to warm up to anyone in the household. Let him approach you on his terms. You may want to just sit in the same room with him or next to him on the couch. That will allow him to get used to you; your smell, your behavior, etc. Try to play with him and pet him if he will let you. Remember that he is a baby so he may behave in ways that you don't want him to. Be patient but firm in letting him know what is okay and what isn't. Before you know it, your kitten will be attached to you for years to come.
