You can tell if a horse is mad if his ears are pointed backword. That also means it can be irrited or upset. If a horse is happy his ears will be forward or straight up and down.

horses can show sadness/depression in many ways, most common ways include:

* aggressive behaviour

*lack of energy/interest in work/food etc

*sudden change of behaviour

*napping, bucking, rearing, bolting etc.

*if they hold there head low, fall asleep during grooming etc,

*or alternatively being very bold and sharp-this usually indicates a factor like ill-fitting tack!

if your horse is showing any signs of sadness my advice would be to get a vet asap! older horses may be showing these signs, or even if a horse i unhappy with its surrondings, company etc.

A horse shows sadness in a few ways. They may become disinterested in things around them including other horses, people, and food. They may call out and look around for a companion or whatever they are missing.
