Something I learned in my Biology class today:
The color alleles on cats are located on the X chromosomes in DNA. Calicos and tortoiseshell cats are usually female because they have an orange X chromosome and a black X chromosome. These two colors will be co-dominant, meaning that neither one or another will be prevalent on the cat's body. This is why calicos and tortoiseshell cats have random patterns of orange and black fur (the white fur, if any, is just a sort of background to the color).
Since two X chromosomes in an animal means that it is female and a XY sex chromosome layout means that the animal is male, it is extremely rare for a male cat to have both the orange and the black X chromosomes required for the calico coat. For this to be possible, the male cat must have a XXY layout of chromosomes - the equivalent of the human Klinefelter's Syndrome. This syndrome almost always leads to the sterility of the animal that has it, although there have supposedly been cases where individuals with Klinefelter's have been fertile. And as to why Klinefelter's causes sterility, I don't have a clue.
A sterile cat is a cat that has been spayed or neutered, meaning they are unable to reproduce. This is a common procedure done by veterinarians to prevent unwanted litters and promote the cat's health.
No, a neutered male cat cannot impregnate a female cat. Neutering involves the removal of the testicles, which are responsible for producing sperm. Therefore, a neutered male cat is sterile and cannot father kittens.
The Calico cat is very likely to be female. It is a genetic trait that seems to be tied into the same genetics that govern their coat color.
While the vast majority of calico cats are female, there is the occasional male. However, virtually all of these males are sterile. These cats are known as Kleinfelter males.
I dont know but you get a freakin lger!
Well you would like to know that because you want to know if the cat is going to get pregnant or get another cat pregnant....
No. Being sterile does not mean the cat is dead because it is only a disorder.
anywhere. go to your local pound and look. you never know now where a cat could be....
Another word for an impotent male would be sterile.
Calico cats are cats who have more than 3 colors......Often girl cats. They are almost always female, if your lucky enough to have a male, they are usually sterile.
same way as humans and if you dont know that you are too young to be asking
No but they will make his bread rise
