Mostly they will pant a lot before ready to whelp. They will also tend to dig and be very restless. Their temperature will drop down to around 97 degrees. Normal Temp is 101 to 102. Have your Veterinarian on standby when you think she is close to whelping. Sometimes things can go wrong. Never let her just labor and labor for hours with no pup being produced. Normally they will whelp out a pup about every 2 hours, don't let her go longer than that between pups as a pup may be stuck or one is dead in the birth canal. Have lots of warm clean towels handy, iodine to put on the ends of the puppies cords. Wipe down each pup after the Mom is through licking them and cleaning them up. If she does not bite the cord free from each pup, help her out by cutting the cord about 1 1/2 inches from the pup's belly, while pushing the blood back into the cord, then cut with clean sharp scissors. Dunk the end of each pup's cord into some iodine to prevent infection. Make sure pups are warm. Hope you have a whelping box handy for Mom and pups, can use newspapers and blankets for the lining. I do recommend you take the Mom and pups to your Vet afterwards to make sure all pups and afterbirth is out of Mom and pups are doing good. Good luck.
yes, if she is not having strong contractions, you can give it to her according to her weight.
if you know what your doing
i'm trying to figure out if my dog is in labor or not
ONLY a Veterinarian should give oxytocin to your dog in labor. If you are doing it yourself, you could literally blow out the uterus so do NOT do it yourself, only with your Veterinarian. It is not for labor pain but to induce contractions of the uterus.
IF its barking to much and wont shut up.
A dog can have false labor especially when you frighten it.
i don't think so but i don Original answerer is wrong. It is actually encouraged that you give your dog Tums during labor. DO NOT give her Tums until the first puppy is out, then repeat for every other puppy after that. Tums can strengthen the contractions making the birthing process easier.
I can give a dog a dollar, but he might eat it. ;-) If you mean can you get a dog for a dollar, I don't know.
you never know
The better question is, how do you know that your dog is having an Anaphylactic reaction?
You can scare a dog and drive it into early labor.
you wont know for sure. ask your vet.
