How do you play cat's cradle alone?

when I first started playing I use to try and practice alone; its very hard but I was like eight and determined lol. I would just start the game and carefully place it down on something flat like a table or this thing i made with hooks I could bend to place the string on. Again kind of hard but nothing is impossible to a kid.
