Riding horses is a fun but difficult sport and it takes very much bravery, dedication and patience. ALWAYS ride with supervision of a friend, trainer, parent or really anyone! And don't forget your helmet and boots with a heel.

The first step is to find a good riding stable. Especially of you are a beginner, you should find a nice barn, with a good reputation and an instructor with many years of experience. when you are choosing a barn take a few lessons and get to know the instructor, barn, and horse you would ride. Make sure you feel welcome and comfortable wherever you are at.

The second step is to get your horse ready. You should groom and tack up your horse. If you are a beginner, you will do this with the help of and instructor.

The third step is to mount your horse. It's usually as easy as it sounds!

Next you will find and maintain balance and learn aids to control your horse such as your hands, seat and legs, which are natural aids, or a crop (whip) and spurs, which are artificial. On your first lesson you should get used to the fell of riding and how to cue your horse to do multiple tasks.

the fifth step is to learn to trot. YOu should trot when your are confident at the walk. You can post (or ride) at the trot or sit! When you sit trot, sit deep in your saddle and have good leg contact, make sure you DON'T jerk your horses mouth. to post you rise and sit with each step of the horse. You should always have your heels down and at least slight contact with your horses mouth. eventually, when you begin the basics you will learn diagonal.

Then you will learn to canter and even jump (if you chose hunter or jumper)! But i will leave those a surprise for the whole experience.

Tips:

-make sure you are confident on one level before you move to the next

-always wear a helmet and boots with a heal (no flip flops!)

-stay calm and relaxed all the time, horses can sense when you are nervous & will become nervous to!

-keeps your hells down. eyes up, and look where you want to go

-NEVER yank on the horses mouth "just because" yanking can be used as a consequence for bad behavior but is very uncomfortable for your horse.instead use a steady and gradual pull

-always have an experienced horse person check your tack if you tack up on your own

-never sit or kneel near a horse
