How do you stop puppies barking?

you can ignore it, eventually they will get the message that they are not getting anywhere.

you can tell them 'no' but make your voice deep and make sure it's commanding and also show them the flat of your hand over their head.

whatever you do, make sure you stick to it, all dogs (old and young) like consistency, and be firm!

This really depends on the dog as much as it depends on you.

Many dog-trainers would say that they can train any dog, but I would claim that certain dogs can not be successfully trained in this "removal" of barking.

Having said this:

One quite effective method is simply water. Maybe even add a little bit of lemon juice to it also. (This for the water to smell a bit)

Fill up a plastic bottle. Use a hot needle and make a few tiny holes in the lid.

Whenever the dog barks, squirt some of this lemon-smelling water in its face.

If your dog is the kind that runs wildly to the door or the window and barks whenever it hears a sound. Try to train it to lie still. Squirt when it runs off to bark.

Give it a treat when it lies still, not reacting to sounds.

You need to be overly consistent about it. The dog need to learn that it is YOU that are the boss, Not the other way around.

For most dogs, this squirting, combined with treats for good behaviour will be most effective, but only if you are very very consistent about it. You almost need to predict what the dog will do before it does it, and be ready with the bottle.

Remember: Dogs have a mind of a goldfish. One turn in the bowl, and things are forgotten. There is no point in squirting at the dog several minutes after it has done what it shouldn't. The dog will not be able to combine the unpleasant squirting with its own actions 3-5 minutes ago.

You only get a good effect from it if you catch it in the act.

Buy what they call a clicker and every time he/she barks click the clicker also reward with small treats

drain its energy, and obedience train. long walks or even runs everyday. even rollerblades ir bicycle rides will do it. if you have little time each day simply put your dog on a treadmill.

The truth is it's hard. Very hard. Dogs bark as a means of communication and will bark as a response. You would need to condition the dog at a very young age to not bark at certain times.
