The mother knows naturally how to take care of her foal, she knows it has to suckle from her and she knows she has to teach it how to walk and take care of itself.
All horses no matter what breed they are care for their young in the same way. A mustang mare will care for her foal by providing nourishment, warmth, and protection. As the foal matures the mother will teach it proper manners, what is safe to eat, and how to evade predators.
