Assuming you're not referring to normal shedding (?) If the dog is actually losing hair, best to take it to the Vet so he/she can determine the cause of the hair loss. It is not normal for dogs to lose patches of hair, and there are many conditions which could cause this. It's impossible to know which treatment is correct, until you know the cause.
A thin strand of hair is called a hair filament or a hair strand.

Yes! Dogs that have skin showing or very short/thin hair should always have sun protection on when outside. Dogs can get skin cancer just as humans can.
All dogs have hair of course.
If you have thin hair, it's better you get a hair topper or pieces where you need them as opposed to a full head of extensions to reduce stress/strain on your already thin hair.
Nope! You just need to go to a hair salon and they can thin out your hair for you no matter what length
The difference between thin and thick hair is that thin hair grows from small hair follicles while thick hair grows from larger hair follicles. You can also tell the difference between the two by examining how visible a single strand of hair is. If you can barely see it, you have thin hair.
Yes because my friend has very thin hair and she was born with it!

I think it does because when you leave it down it looks thick... But it does depend on your hair type. If you have thin hair, it will look thin either way. I you have thick hair, it will look thinner up.
