Simple, direct, economical language
Spanish language
In Ernest Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants," the diction used in the dialogue between the man and the woman reveals their complex relationship and the underlying tension between them. The simple and sparse language reflects the characters' inability to directly communicate their emotions and desires, adding depth to the story's themes of miscommunication and unspoken turmoil.
Hemingway will make the adventure come alive by using vivid and descriptive language to paint a detailed picture of the setting, characters, and experiences. He will focus on capturing the raw emotions and inner thoughts of the characters, creating a sense of immediacy and tension that draws readers into the story. Hemingway's concise and straightforward writing style will also contribute to the sense of realism and authenticity in the narrative.

How the language is used.......is the answer
The language used by the author is called narrative.
In his writing he provided detached descriptions of action, using simple nouns and verbs to capture scenes percisley. By doing so he avoided describing his characters emotions and thoughts directly. Instead of providing the reader with just the experience, he made it approximate the experience as closely as possible. Hemingway believed a writer could treat a subject honestly only if the writer was deeply observing the subject. Without that knowledge the writers work would be bad because the reader would know the authors lack of knowledge. Hemingway believed an author writing about a familiar subject is able to write sparingly and eliminate bad detail from the piece without sacrificing the voice of authority. This is why he used simple, direct language.
Narrative Conventions are things such as, Language, Setting, Plot Structure, Point of view and Characterization :)
