The aye-aye has the following special adaptations:

  • Its has large ears and good hearing which it uses to locate insect grubs hiding inside of trees.
  • It has a skinny middle finger, which it uses to grab the food it finds from inside small spaces. It also uses the finger with its good hearing to locate insect grubs with echolocation. It will tap on trees and other surfaces with the finger and then listen to determine if if the surface is hollow.
  • It has rodent-like teeth, which it uses to gnaw into wood to find its food.
  • It has claws, which are used for climbing trees.
