... Sea otters don't breathe under water. The only animals that can are ones that have gills. Sea otters can hold their breath for long periods of time but must come up eventually (sort of like dolphins, whales, penguins etc.)

They don't breathe underwater, they are mammals, that means they are like us, they breathe air. They might seem like they can breathe underwater, but the truth is, they have to come up once in a while to get some more oxygen.
