as long as it has plenty of space to play in exercise before and after and heaps of toys should be ok but having another dog as a friend would be better that way it will minimize what it destroys when it gets bored
I just recently got a puppy and a dog should be fine in a cage for that amount of time just don't let it roam the house until he/she is potty trained because they will pee on the floor.
