From until the snow gets to deep to forage in early winter until it melts enough to forage in the spring, around Yellowstone about four months. Grizzlies sometimes wake up in April look around outside their den then if the snow is too deep they go back to bed. It all depends on if foraging burns more calories than they can ingest, if they can achieve a net gain on calories they will not go back into hibernation.
