How long is it after gelding a horse before you can ride them?

Providing there was no complications with the gelding procedure or infection after surgery your horse should be feeling better after a couple of weeks. Don't over-exert him on the first few rides after gelding.

A horse can be gelded at any age depending on what the situation is. Many people claim that if you wait until the horse is fully grown that the horse will have more muscle. Others say that if you geld a horse early (10 or 12 mos) that he will grow taller. I'm not sure that there is any truth to any of that. I would recommend gelding at an early age if you are going to geld. I don't think that there is any reason to leave a horse a stud if your intent is to geld him at some point. I geld at about a year old.

A horse can be bred anywhere from within minutes or hours after giving birth, up to the next time they have their next heat cycle (typically within a week of birth). I have seen a case on a documentary about wild horses where a mare gave birth, and within minutes, was bred by the foal's father again.

The horse may still have sperm in his tubing which is not removed during the castration process. They may have motile sperm for up to 30 days after gelding.
