This is different for different breeds. For example, a Rottweiler must be docked at the first joint close to the body, and a Weimeraner should be docked by one third. To find out the length of docking for each breed, consult their breed standard. NOTE: English Breed Standards no longer say how long the dog's tail should be docked by as the operation is now illegal in the UK, but American Standards still support docking.
how long do you leave a doberman tail
You can dock the tail and crop the ears of a doberman anywhere in the world. The only thing that you might want to do is to make certain that there are no local ordinances against it.
You really shouldn't "dock" or cut a dog's tail off. But as far as natural length goes, it depends on the breeds.
the dock is the tail... the hair is the tail the soild bit its attched to (which is quite short) is the dock.
Did u mean dock? Anyway hunting dog may get burs or other things(sticks leaves) stuck in the long hair on a dogs tail. This is why they dock it
No, dobermans tails are long and scrawny. Most doberman owners have their dog's tail bobbed (cut off) when they are puppies. Warning: tail bobbing should only be performed by a licensed veterinarian.
At the top of the tail
A dock on a horse refers to the fleshy part of the tail where it attaches to the rest of the body. It is located at the base of the tail. The dock serves as a connection point for muscles that control the tail's movement and provides support.
A doberman's natural tail is actually long. Many owners and breeders decide to have their tails docked (shortened) while they are puppies to give them the traditional doberman appearance. Also, if the dog is to be trained as a guard dog having the tail docked serves a purpose. During a physical engagement (fight) the dog's tail is more difficult to grab thus making it hard to defend against the dog.
An American Bulldog's tail (and ears) should be left natural.
Some people do choose crop and dock their boxer's ears and tail. Others choose not to do this. Either way is OK. Both sides have their own opinions as to why it should or shouldn't be done.
go to the vets and i think that illegle now Only Veterinarians should do it. It is not necessary to dock a Dobermann's tail. As you do not say where you live it is now illegal in many countries to do so including Wales, Scotland and England. Large fines could be involved and possible confiscation of dogs.
