A newborn puppy will be on it's mother for about the first 6 weeks. This helps to keep it's antibodies up until it has it's first vet visit. It can be started on pablum at about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. Soaked puppy chow is added until about 6 weeks when the pablum is eliminated.
The female is weaned slowly from about 5 to 7 weeks. The puppies stay on softened chow and are slowly introduced to dry puppy chow, until they can safely eat it without choking.
The puppy has it's first inoculations after 6 weeks and can go to their new home at 8 weeks.
The puppy will spen it's first year on puppy chow, when it will be slowly introduced to adult chow. Nothing is done in a hurry as the system has to get used to the change over a week or two.
