It is pretty scary... In the millions... Approximately 6.2 millions of dogs die a year and 3.8 million of those dogs die in homes.. The death rate per year would be impossible to find but I can say that about 6 million is as good as it gets.

More like 30 million.

About 6 million dogs are put down in shelters a year alone. This is not counting the natural deaths, deaths from neglect, car and other accidents, intentional killings (dog fighting, just for the hell of it things, etc.), and the people who let their mutts breed and breed, then throw the litter in the garbage or lake/river. They may keep one, when the one they have is ready to die, to continue the cycle.
