We have a Welshie/Jack Russell mix who is 15 and going strong, despite spending the first seven years of her life churning out pups in a notorious puppy mill. Aside from a few stray white hairs, she can still pass for half her age. She runs like a gazelle, dances, etc. Long may she continue in good health. What happens when you breed a Jack Russell female with a Border Collie male?

It should not be done purposely, but if it did happen, the female Jack Russell would have to have a C-section to be able to have the pups ... they would be too big to birth naturally. It would also be dangerous for her to be pregnant with pups of a much larger dog, but if she were to get pregnant with only a few instead of several, she might be OK. The pups would be medium-sized dogs ... not as small at the JR, and not as large as the collie. Anyway, because of the danger involved to the mother and subsequent pups, purposeful breeding between these two should never be done.
