Our bodies are designed to walk without exerting much energy. Unless you are walking at a brisk pace (4mph +) you are not going to get the least bit "fit". It also depends on what your definition of "fit" is. When I think fit in this situation I think in shape cardiovascularly.

While walking 10,000 steps a day may SLOWLY lower your weight you will not become fit (in shape).
