There are dozens of different types of markings, including facial, body and leg markings. Some examples include a star (white spot on the forehead), a stocking (white on the leg from the hoof up to the pastern), blanket Appaloosa (roan body with a white patch over the hindquarters, usually with roan spots within the white area), bay (black points, black mane and tail) and frame paint (white on the sides, colored hair on the back and belly).
