If you are talking about boarding a horse at a local stable, it depends on where you live. Partial to full care board (feeding, turnout, stall cleaning) can run from $250 to $600 or more. That doesn't include farrier, vet, supplies, etc.

It depends on the budget you are willing to spend on a horse, and it really depends on the size, pedigree, however in my opinion; as I have purchased a couple of horses in my time I would say a reasonable price for a reasonable horse would be around

£2250 - £10,000. Although, that would just be price range if you are expecting to enter your new horse into only local competitions.

More advanced and professional competitions may require a horse from a higher price range - although when purchasing a horse, take into consideration the temperament, blood type, breed of horse and schooling and further costs of homing and feeding.

Stabling a horse is dependant on many things, included weather, amount of land available, illness, age, etc. No horse should be kept inside all the time, it goes against their nature and causes health problems, a horse should have a minimum of 8 hours of turnout time every day. Turnout can be done in a paddock, or riding arena, but the area must be big enough for the horse to get up a good gallop if it wants to. A good option is a small dry-lot (dirt lot) with a run in shelter for the horse. this allows for constant movement, but makes the horse more accessible to the owner. A dry-lot kept horse will need hay and water available at all times, slow feed hay feeders are good for this purpose. If the horse must be kept in a stall then make sure it has toys and constant hay and water.
