The first Santa Claus was from Turkey. His name was St. Nicholas and he lived and performed miracles in the town of Demre in southwestern Turkey.

Santa turned 273 on his last birthday, of course that is not very old when you live at the North Pole. He can live for many more hundreds of years.

However the Dutch version of his life got slightly corrupted, and became the modern Santa Claus. (Pronouncing Saint Nicholas in Dutch comes out like: San Nicolaus, which morphed into "Santa Claus").

The original St Nicolas was around in about 346 ad
