How to Clean a dog cut?

You may clean any animals' minor cut in the same way you would clean a humans' minor cut. Hydrogen Peroxide to clean/sterilize and you may want to use a triple antibiotic such as neosporine or like ointment/cream to treat and fight infection. I am not an expert or a vet I am just a professional dog trainer. I personally believe peroxide is ok but if you let a dog lick a spot where you put neosporine it can have damaging affects on the liver. Pleae ask your vet! ----

Well if the cut is deep or infected please consult a veteranarian if not here is how:

1. clean the wound with wert towel or peroxide

2. dress the wound with neosporin or another antiboitic cream

3. ther is really no way to apply a bandaid or patch just leave it alone but keep an eye on the dog to make sure he does not lick it that can upset its stomach

4. or you could just simply let the wound heal on its own the dog will lick it but dogs have a special germ in their saliva that speeds up the healing process of the wound , but again do watch the cut for signs of infection then you may want to consult a veterinarian

There is actually very little you can do. Clean is with a damp cloth or paper towel and make sure it stays clean throughout the entire healing process. Your dog will heal on its own pretty quickly.

A bit more:

If the cut is serious, or pretty large, you need to take it to a vet. But if it's a small, shallow cut, you can clean it with peroxide, then apply an antibiotic cream (the kind you would use on a person). This needs to be done once or twice a day until the cut begins to heal.

You really need to take your dog to your Veterinarian. Is the cut large or small? Is it deep or shallow. What caused it? The main thing you can do is to clean the wound out thoroughly with a disinfectant soap, rinse well and pat dry. Apply an ointment such as Neosporin or something else that is a good disinfectant. Don't use hydrogen peroxide as it tends to damage the skin itself. This will keep the wound clean until you can get your dog to your Veterinarian to have it properly taken care of. Don't bandage it at this point, leave that diagnosis up to the Vet. You can cause more problems by covering up the wound instead of leaving it open, just depends, that is why you must go to your Veterinarian.
