If the red wolf is Canis rufus what is the scientific name for a black wolf?

The red wolf is a species however there is no such species as a black wolf, therefore no scientific name.

But as 'rufus' is latin for red, I guess the latin word for 'black' would be used in the 'Black Wolf' Species' scientific name.

The red wolf has been demoted back to its status as a subspecies of the gray wolf - Canis lupus rufus. However, there is much discussion today that the red wolf is actually a hybrid between a gray wolf and a coyote as the DNA seems to indicate. There may be no such species as a red wolf. The black wolf is simply a color variation of the gray wolf.
