When I was young, I had both a calico cat and a collie dog. I especially recall an incident one Nebraska winter. The dog was curled up asleep near the kitchen, when the cat came running through the house, scrabbling as she slid across the tile floor, and took an enormous leap - right onto the dog. The dog raised her head and looked around while the cat kneaded at the dog's hip, turned around and then curled up - ON the dog. A moment later they were both asleep; dog on the floor, cat on the dog. I suppose the cat figured that the dog was the warmest place in the house!
